Originally from Canada, Heather’s yoga journey began with Hatha Yoga classes in Guelph, Ontario about twenty years ago.  There she had the opportunity to study with some wonderful, dedicated teachers, mostly following the Kripalu tradition.  Heather lived and worked and taught overseas for a number of years (Vietnam, Nepal & Zambia) and was fortunate to experience different styles and approaches to yoga with a variety of teachers.  Sometimes, over the years, certain aspects of her practice wavered depending on the various circumstances in her life.  After making the decision to have a committed practice Heather went to India for yoga teacher training in Traditional Indian/Classical Yoga at Yoga Vidya Dham (see: www.yogapoint.com).  Yoga Vidya Dham is a sister school to the Bihar School of Yoga, following the Satyananda lineage.  She followed up her yoga teacher training with training in yoga therapy and then a diploma in yogic studies.  At the Gurukul, Heather found mantra chanting irresistible and was hooked.  During all of her training courses she was very fortunate to be surrounded by gifted and generous teachers.  Before her recent move to Washington, DC, Heather taught yoga (and more) in Zambia.

As a teacher, Heather enjoys sharing the many aspects of yoga with her students such as: Asana, Pranayama, Meditation, Karma Yoga, Patanjali’s Ashtanga Yoga, Cleansing Processes, Japa/Mantra Yoga.  Heather enjoys teaching and sharing her love of the practice of Surya Namaskara and, for evening practices, Chandra Namaskara.  She believes in practicing with devotion, incorporating mantras into the practice, focusing on the breath and body awareness.  One of her favourite asanas is Ardha Matsyendrasana as it gives such a wonderful twist for the spine and the internal organs of the body.

Heather has studied basic Ayurveda in India as well as Reiki.  She also practices Vipassana Meditation and is a language teacher.  She is a big fan of Omkar chanting.
